All the notes, none of the cloud.

A small, fast rich-text notes app that works entirely offline, in a frosted-glass UI. The name is a pun on Notion. It is written in Kotlin with Jetpack Compose, and a release build is about 4 MB.

What makes it different.

  • No internet permission at all

    Nocean does not hold the INTERNET permission, so it cannot go online. Every note and every file stays in the app’s private storage.

  • Rich text and media, with fonts built in

    Use H1 to H3 headings, bold, italic and a different font for any stretch of text, and insert images, video and audio right into it. Eight Google Fonts are bundled in the APK, so they work without a network or Play Services. Tap an image to pinch-zoom it full screen, or a clip to open a player with glass controls.

  • Pin what matters, then find the rest three ways

    Long-press a card to pin a note to the top of the list; pinning leaves its edited date alone. The badge in the search field cycles plain substring, fuzzy subsequence matching — hrbrjrnl finds Harbor journal — and a case-insensitive regular expression. The choice is remembered, and a pattern that does not compile yet says why instead of reading as no matches.

  • Your whole library in one zip

    Export every note and its media to a single .zip and restore it on any device. On import, a note replaces an existing one only if it is newer.

Four themes.

Ocean uses IBM Carbon blues and Pepper uses PeppertinoCSS red; both follow the system light or dark setting. Cherry is Solarized Light in pink, and Tokyo Night is the night variant of the VS Code theme. Those two are single-mode, so the appearance toggle shows their fixed mode and says why.
